Tottenham activated an option with the extension of Jan Vertonghen’s contract for 12 months. Thus, the central defender is connected with the club until June 2020.

Jan is a key player at Tottenham since his transfer from Ajax in 2012. He has played 264 matches during this time and worked with Andre Villas-Boas, Tim Sherwood and Mauricio Pochettino.

The 31-year-old Belgian continues to prove his high level season after season. He was named in the symbolic Premier League team last season, according to the Professional Football Players Association.

The Spurs used their right to extend cooperation with Vertonghen until the end of next season, but Sky Sports adds that Jon is open for negotiations on a new long-term agreement.

Recall, Tottenham will have a Carabao Cup battle against Arsenal tonight.
