Barcelona’s Belgian defender Thomas Vermaelen will be out of action due to injury. That was reported by the club’s official website.

The football player is diagnosed with a calf muscle tear. He was injured in the LaLiga’s 16th round match against Levante (5:0) and was replaced at the beginning of the second half. The Belgian’s recovery period will be about four weeks.

33-year-old Vermaelen moved to Barcelona in the summer of 2014 from Arsenal for €19 million. He spent only three matches in LaLiga in this season, not having distinguished himself with any effective actions. His contract with the Catalan club is valid until the summer of 2019.

Recall that Vermaelen won the league and the Spanish Cup, as well as the Champions League in his first season at Barcelona (2014/2015), having played only one match.
