Barcelona’s head coach Ernesto Valverde didn’t understand why his team’s attacker Lionel Messi wasn’t included in the final Golden Ball contenders list.

Valverde said that he didn’t understand how Leo didn’t appear in the list of the top three candidates. The Spanish specialist was at a loss about that, because Messi was the best player in the Champions League last season.

Nevertheless, Ernesto admits that he doesn’t address these issues. UEFA made the decision and only they can adequately explain how Lionel failed to qualify for the Golden Ball this year.

Previously, Italian journalist Alessandro Alchato reported that Real Madrid’s midfielder Luka Modric would be the winner of the Golden Ball in the current year. The journalist also said that Cristiano Ronaldo would take second place. Atletico’s forward Antoine Griezmann is to take 3rd place among the main contenders for the award.

31-year-old Messi has played 11 matches in LaLiga this season, in which he scored nine goals and gave six assists.
