Manchester United accelerated the search for a sports director after breaking up with their head coach Jose Mourinho.

Thoughts about creating a sports director position, who would become an intermediary between the head coach and the top management, appeared at the club from Old Trafford last summer, after an inexpressive transfer window.

Just before Mourinho’s dismissal last Tuesday, the press reported that the Red Devils couldn’t find a specialist who could fully arrange Mourinho, although the Portuguese wasn’t fundamentally against the idea of working side by side with the director.

Parting with Mourinho automatically solves this problem – the club no longer needs to take Jose’s preferences into account. As it became known to The Independent, the search for a new director has shifted to a new stage now.

Previously, United comiled a short list of candidates and a dossier on them. Now, the Red Devils have turned to direct interviews with the candidates.

According to the publication, the Red Devils have already met with Domenico Teti, Fabio Paratici and Giuseppe Marotta in recent weeks. Even Sir Alex Ferguson takes participation in the selection of a suitable candidate.
