UEFA Champions League: AS Roma vs Porto FC – match preview
Last year’s semifinalist of the Champions League will host the leader of the Primeira Liga in their Champions League last-16 tie tonight.
A month ago, Porto could be called the undisputed favorite of this confrontation. First, Roma are in crisis; secondly, Porto players managed to get in shape (at the moment, they occupy first place in the Portuguese Championship and have only two losses in 21 matches); thirdly, the return game will take place in Lisbon.
And yet, with the approach of the first leg date, the chances of Roma for a further success only increased. On the eve, I Giallorossi confidently beat Chievo with a score of 3:0, reintroduced larger reserve squad. Thus, Roma have begun the process of recovery, from a mental point of view. It’s no secret that the team has serious psychological problems.
Roma’s chances of success have increased for several reasons. First, De Rossi returned to the team – with him and without him the Rome team differs a lot.
Secondly, Porto have three serious losses – striker Moussa Marega (second best scorer of the team), striker Vincent Aboubakar and winger Jesus Corona, who was handed the punishment by the UEFA.
Still, the teams’ chances of reaching the next stage can be considered as approximately equal, the outcome of these last-16 ties will be decided by the details. Moreover, I strongly doubt that Roma are able to score more than two goals this evening.
Venue: Stadio Olimpico, Rome
