UEFA Champions League: Ajax vs Tottenham – preview, line-ups, prediction
A home defeat in the Champions League first semi-final match made Tottenham’s task extremely difficult. In addition to the brilliant form shown by Ajax, the Amsterdam team suffered only one defeat in the last 24 matches of the current season.
It is still too early to say that everything is clear in this pair, that Liverpool and Ajax will meet in the Champions League final at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid. Both Tottenham and their rivals have deserved a lot of compliments this season and proved that they are able to deal with the most difficult tasks.
Not facing troubles in the 1/8 finals against Borussia Dortmund (4:0 on the sum of two matches), in the quarterfinal, Tottenham managed to overcome Manchester City only due to an away goal rule and a couple of ambiguous decisions from the referee.
The path of Ajax turned out to be even more thorny. The Amsterdam club had to start with the qualification round against Dynamo Kyiv. After that, Erik ten Hag’s team didn’t face problems in quite a difficult group with Bayern Munich, Benfica and AEK. However, the playoffs turned out to be a real test of the team’s spirit.
A home defeat in the 1/8 finals first match against Real Madrid – it seemed you could easily switch to domestic tournaments, but Ten Hag’s players dealt with Los Blancos at Santiago Bernabéu. A home draw against Juventus, and, again, an important victory in Turin! Amazing.
Another very important psychological point. Ajax have a chance to win the Treble in this season. The Amsterdam club bagged the Dutch Cup last Sunday, defeating Willem II (4:0). In the Eredivisie, Ten Hag’s team levelled up with PSV two rounds before the finish, significantly surpassing the competitor in the number of goals scored and conceded.
