Son Heung-min will leave for the Asian Cup in January
Tottenham striker Son Heung-min will miss at least three matches of his club after the New Year because of the call to the South Korea national team to participate in the Asian Cup.
Having played the first match in the Premier League’s this season, Son went to the Asian Games, where he led his national team to gold medals and received an exemption from service in the South Korean army.
Today, the homeland knocked again at the door of the 26-year-old footballer, calling for the Asian Cup which will be held in UAE from January 5 to February 1. South Koreans are in the group with China, Philippines and Kyrgyzstan.
Son will join his national team after the match against Manchester United on January 13th. This means that the attacker is guaranteed to miss Premier League matches against Fulham and Watford, as well as League Cup semi-final match against Chelsea on January 22.
If the South Korea national team lags at the Asian Cup as long as possible, having reached the final, then Son will miss the match against Newcastle on February 2. According to the Evening Standard, this match may become the first one at the new 62-thousand stadium.
In any case, Son’s departure will add a headache to Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino, because the South Korean is showing a great football in this season, having scored his last goal against old rivals Arsenal in the League Cup the day before.
