Premier League: Chelsea vs Tottenham – preview, line-ups, prediction

Wednesday’s meeting will be the 164th time the two clubs have met. The statistics in this pair is on the side of Chelsea, who won 69 battles, with 40 draws and 54 victories of Tottenham. Chelsea are also better in goal difference (253-236).

These London teams have met three times in the current season. Spurs won in the first EPL matchday with a 3:1 score. Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-min scored for Pochettino’s squad, Olivier Giroud for the Pensioners.

The teams met in the Carabao Cup semi-finals this year: Tottenham won 1:0 with a goal from Harry Kane, on January 8.

But, Chelsea took a revenge on January 24 (2:1), with goals by N’Golo Kante and Eden Hazard, Tottenham’s Fernando Llorente scored a goal for Spurs. The Blues played unsuccessfully their last games in the Premier League, having suffered three defeats in four games. Chelsea lost to Manchester City (0:6) in the last round of the Premier League.

Maurizio Sarri’s wards occupy 6th place on 50 points and goal difference 45-29 in the standings of the EPL, having played 26 matches. In the league, Chelsea held 13 matches at home, gaining 28 points, +17 goal difference, losing once.

Tottenham unexpectedly lost Burnley away (1:2) last weekend, interrupting their series of 4 victories in the Premier League.

That failure did not allow Mauricio Pochettino’s team to come close to the leaders of the season. Spurs gained 60 points, with 55-27 goal difference and third place in the table.
