Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba explained his provocative Instagram post after the dismissal of head coach Jose Mourinho.

The relationship between Pogba and Mourinho, which had never been perfect before, moved to an open conflict stage in the first four months of this season. The player and the coach expressed complaints to each other in a straightforward and veiled manner.

Pogba was forced to be content with a place on the Red Devils’ bench in the last three Premier League matches. That was the result of a protracted recession in Paul’s game.

The Frenchman posted on Instagram his picture with a cunning squint and the words “Caption this” shortly after Mourinho’s official resignation on Tuesday afternoon.

Such a provocative message caused widespread resentment, and Liverpool’s former defender Jamie Carragher even called on Pogba to leave the club after Mourinho. Very soon, Paul was forced to remove the photo from his Instagram.

A little later, Pogba made an excuse thanks to Adidas. The personal sponsor of the midfielder issued a statement stating that the photo was a “planned marketing post.”
