Barca’s forward Lionel Messi understood that he could not contend for the Golden Ball in 2018.

The Argentinean spoke about the fight for the Golden Ball, as well as about the rivalry with Cristiano Ronaldo.

“I listened to the roster of the nominees for the Ballon d’Or and understood that I would not fight for it. I knew that I would not be among the applicants, I did not listen if I became second, third, fourth or fifth.”

“The rivalry with Ronaldo was very cool and interesting for the audience” Marca quotes the striker.
So, Lionel scored 22 goals and gave 13 assists in 20 Barca’s battles this season.

On the other hand, the Catalans’ star got the Golden Boot for the record-breaking fifth time. Messi scored 34 goals in 36 battles last season. In the fight for the award, he walked around Mohamed Salah from Liverpool.
