Today, December 18, the ceremony of presenting the Golden Boot to Barcelona’s Argentine striker Lionel Messi took place.

The Golden Boot is awarded to the top scorer of the UEFA national championships.

Messi received the award for the fifth time in his career, which is a world record. Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo is occupying 2nd place with 4 Golden boots.

Messi scored 34 goals in 36 matches last season. In the fight for the award, he walked around Mohamed Salah from Liverpool, who scored 32 goals in 36 Premier League matches. Previously, Lionel received the Golden Boot in 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2017.

The 31-year-old Argentine is the author of 14 goals in 14 LaLiga’s matches in this season.

Leo himself admitted in an interview that he didn’t expect that he would ever be able to reach such heights. He always dreamed about it but never thought that it would become a reality. At the moment, he is playing for the best club in the world with the best players, and therefore it is easier for him to win such prestigious awards as the Golden Boot.
