Liverpool mentor Jurgen Klopp confirmed that defender Joe Gomez was out of action with an ankle injury.

Having played all 90 minutes of the Merseyside derby against Everton on Sunday, three days later, 21-year-old Gomez got into the starting line-up of the Reds for the away match with Burnley, but was replaced in the middle of the first half.

The doctors are to determine how serious the damage is, but Klopp fears that Joe’s return will not be quick.

“This is his ankle. Joe is injured and is unlikely to get off easily. But we still have to look, we sent him home,” Sky Sports quotes Klopp.

Moreover, Liverpool staged a superb second-half revival to come back from a goal down and beat Burnley 3-1 in the Premier League at Turf Moor on Wednesday.

The Reds remained unbeaten and at second place on 39 points after 15 games while Burnley stayed in the relegation zone on nine points.
