Inter’s captain became Player of the Year in Serie A
The striker of Inter, Mauro Icardi, received the Serie A Footballer of the Year award at the ceremony, that took place in Milan yesterday.
For the first time since 2011, the prize was awarded to a non-Juventus player. Gianluigi Buffon, who represented Juve, won the award in 2017. By the way, The Old Lady have won the championship of Italy 7 times in a row.
In addition to the prize for the Player of the Year, 25-year-old Icardi also won the best goal of the year award, for a brilliant back-heel against Sampdoria in spring 2018.
The current champion and leader of Serie A, Juventus, were named as the team of the year.
Earlier, we reported that the Old Lady mentor, Massimo Allegri, got the award for the best coach. Moreover, the coach set a record for number of victories: he won this title for the fourth time.
