Hazard recognized as Belgian Sportsman of the Year
Chelsea and the Belgium national team’s midfielder Eden Hazard became the best athlete in 2018 in his country as a result of the voting of sports journalists, reports HLN.
The 27-year-old Belgian footballer outstripped in the voting the European athletics champion, marathon runner Koen Naert and Olympic athlete Bart Swings. Hazard became the third football player in the last five years to win this award. Previously, Thibaut Courtois (2014) and Kevin de Bruyne (2015) were recognized as the best athletes of the year in Belgium.
At Russia’s 2018 World Cup, Hazard, together with the Belgium national team, won bronze medals. The Belgians beat England (2:0) in the match for third place.
