Manchester City are on the verge of missing Ajax midfielder Frenkie De Jong.

According to the Daily Mirror’s exclusive material, Guardiola personally met with De Jong last month, talking with the 21-year-old Dutchman for three and a half hours.

Frenkie showed interest in moving to Etihad as Fernandinho’s successor. The Brazilian will turn 34 at the end of the season.

Last Thursday, the Citizens’ delegation was supposed to fly to Amsterdam to conclude an agreement with Ajax, under which De Jong would go to City the next summer for £66.8 million.

However, the Premier League champions asked their colleagues from Ajax to postpone the deal less than a day before the scheduled meeting. It is assumed that happened due to the fact that the Сitizens wanted to wait for the UEFA verdict about possible sanctions for violating the financial fair play rules.

PSG immediately took advantage of the situation, and their sports director, Antero Henrique, and his Brazilian assistant Maxwell visited the Netherlands and made De Jong a splendid proposition.

PSG are going to take advantage of City’s delay now to confirm officially De Jong transfer, and Guardiola is furious about this as the Spanish specialist missed an opportunity to sign Dani Alves, Alexis Sanchez and Jorginho in the transfer market in recent months.
