FC Cincinnati and captain Kendall Waston agreed to a contract extension on Thursday.

The 31-year-old defender was named the MLS expansion club’s first captain this season and he has scored one goal in 13 starts.

“I’m really excited to sign a contract extension with FC Cincinnati,” Waston said in a club statement. “From December, I was really looking forward to joining the club and I’m looking forward to staying here. I’m really happy.”

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“We are pleased that Kendall will remain an FC Cincinnati player for the foreseeable future,” general manager Gerard Nijkamp said. “He is a true professional who leads by example on and off the pitch and is committed to what we are building at FC Cincinnati.”

Before Waston joined Cincinnati, the Costa Rica native twice made the MLS Best XI (2015, 2017) with the Vancouver Whitecaps.
