Emery helped Tottenham to sign Aurier and Moura
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino admitted that Arsenal’s head coach Unai Emery helped the Spurs to complete two transfers.
Before Sunday’s North London derby, Pochettino said that Emery was his great friend from the time when they both had been working in Spain. Unai even recommended Valencia’s leadership to appoint Mauricio as his successor when he left Sevilla in 2012, but the Argentinian remained loyal to Espanyol.
However, Pochettino and Emery aren’t connected with friendly relations only, but with business ones too. Before the start of last season, Mauricio received from Emery (who was PSG’s head coach at that time) some recommendations regarding defender Serge Aurier and winger Lucas Moura. Subsequently, both players moved to Tottenham.
Pochettino admitted that he had been in contact with Emery all that time. It’s hard not to communicate with your colleague, whose life is filled with football on 99,9%. Mauricio shares Unai’s obsession with the most popular sport in the world and is always happy to chat with him, regardless of which club he is working at right now.
The Argentine said that there were excellent relations between his coaching staff and Emery’s one. Therefore, there is nothing surprising in the fact that they sometimes ask each other about a particular player’s facts.
