Arsenal manager Unai Emery confirmed that he was open to a central defender acquisition in the winter transfer window.

The Gunners suffered a heavy loss last week, having lost Rob Holding, who tore the cruciate ligaments of the knee, until the end of the season.

Arsenal will go to Southampton this weekend, who are without disqualified Sokratis and Shkodran Mustafi. Laurent Koscielny and Konstantinos Mavropanos have not yet had game practice in the current season. This situation makes Emery think about entering the transfer market.

Emery admitted that it would be fine if his club could invite one central defender to the team in the winter. Nevertheless, he needs to solve the problem together with Koscielny and Mavropanos at the moment.

Another option is to play with two or three centre-backs using Monreal and Lichtsteiner there. However, Unai prefers to use profile players in the centre of defence, since this position is crucial.

The media calls Eric Bailly from Manchester United and Gary Cahill from Chelsea as Arsenal’s main transfer targets in January.
