David De Gea rejected the idea of changing the club and decided to stay at Manchester United in the status of the world’s highest paid goalkeeper.

When Real Madrid ended their long-standing interest in De Gea last summer, having reinforced the team with Thibaut Courtois, they sighed with relief in Manchester.

However, the Red Devils’ hopes to finally close the issue with David’s future by concluding a new contract weren’t satisfied. According to rumors, De Gea had doubts whether he would be able to fulfil his sporting ambitions if he remained at Old Trafford.

Nevertheless, United managed to make a breakthrough after several months of negotiations. According to The Sun, the 28-year-old Spaniard has already told friends that he is on the verge of conducting a new deal with the club.

It is expected that the new deal will increase De Gea’s salary to £400 thousand a week. At the moment, only Alexis Sanchez is getting more at United.

We add that De Gea’s current contract expires next summer, but provides an option to extend the cooperation for 12 months. There were rumors earlier that PSG could offer United £60 million for David at the end of the season.
