Beckham gets driving ban for using phone
Retired soccer star David Beckham can’t drive for six months in his native England after being caught using his cell phone behind the wheel.
He pleaded guilty to using his phone while driving his Bentley last Nov. 21 in London. That admission gave Beckham six points on his driving record, and combined with other points for speeding, he was due the ban under law.
Beckham, 44, also must pay $1,200 in fines and court costs.
The prosecutor said Beckham was photographed using the device in “slowly moving traffic,” but District Judge Catherine Moore told him there was “no excuse” for his actions, not even in stop-and-go traffic.
Beckham is part of the ownership group of Inter Miami CF, an MLS expansion team set to join the league in 2020.
