Athletic aimed to sign Bayern Munich’s midfielder Javi Martinez, Marca reported. The Lions want to strengthen their squad and try to return Javi in the coming summer.

Martinez moved to Munich from Athletic for 40 million euros in 2012. This season, he has played 21 matches in all tournaments and scored one goal. His current agreement is valid until June 2021.

We told earlier that the Spaniard had an opportunity to go to Paris Saint-Germain in January, Bild reported. The Parisians wanted to buy the 30-year-old performer, but the Bavarians decided to keep Martinez.

Moreover, Athletic Bilbao’s new sporting director Rafael Alkorta announced that his club was interested in acquiring Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera and Tottenham striker Fernando Llorente.
