Alonso sees match against City defining for Chelsea’s title chances

Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso believes that a victory in the full-time confrontation with Manchester City can return his team to the Premier League’s championship race, while a defeat will deprive the real chances for the title.

The Blues are approaching Saturday’s match at Stamford Bridge against the reigning champions with 10 points behind the top. Chelsea slowed down significantly and won only one of the last four matches.

Given this, the outcome of the match with the leader may be of great importance for the Blues’ championship ambitions, but Alonso prefers not to look at the table.

Alonso understands that it is too early to talk about the championship. Nevertheless, if his team loses, they will be 13 points from first place and this is a huge lead.

Manchester City don’t look like a team that could lose such a handicap. Guardiola’s team scored 100 points in last season and there is nothing that could prevent them from doing so in the current season.

Nevertheless, a possible victory in the match against City will return Chelsea to the title race. Alonso doesn’t want these thoughts to occupy players’ heads during the match. But all players must get together and show their best game to get back on the winning path.
