Manchester City attained an incredible victory (2:3) at Schalke 04 playing with 10 men in the first match of the Champions League Round of 16.

The English team opened the score as the team leader, Sergio Aguero, found the net in the 18th minute of the meeting. For Argentine, that goal was the 29th in the Citizens’ T-shirt in the Champions League.

Thus, Aguero is just one goal away from Wayne Rooney (30) on the list of players who scored the most Champions League goals playing for an English club.

The full list is as follows:

  1. Didier Drogba – 36 (Chelsea)
  2. Thierry Henry – 35 (Arsenal)
  3. Ruud van Nistelrooy – 35 (Manchester United)
  4. Wayne Rooney – 30 (Manchester United)
  5. Sergio Aguero – 29 (Manchester City)

The Argentine has a chance to top this list in the current or next season, Henry and Van Nistelrooy have already finished their careers, and Rooney is currently playing in the MLS.
